Vallum notebook by Brenda Swinbank

The collection consists of a series of scans (produced as pdfs) of the fieldwork notebook of Brenda Heywood (nee Swinbank) that she compiled for her doctoral research on the Vallum of Hadrian's Wall during the course of walking the Wall in May and June of 1950. 

The notebook provides direct testimony of conditions observable on the ground, along with interpretation. 

Notes are presented from east to west, with the left margin indicating identifiable sites along the course of the Wall. 

The notebook was given to Prof. David Breeze by Brenda, and scanned at David's request and with permission.
