READ ME This text describes the data presented in the paper: Climate, Geographic and Operational determinants of Trihalomethanes (THMS) in drinking water systems ======================== Introductory information ======================== Files included in the data deposit (include a short description of what data are contained): 1) Chloride_Bromide_forCorrelations: Contains only available data for bromide found from Jan. 2011 to Jan. 2013 combined with available data for chloride during the same time. This data was used for correlation analysis between these two variables 2) DOC_Temperature_Rainfall: contains monthly average data for DOC (Scottish Water), ambient temperature and rainfall monthly average values (data for both variables obtained from Met Office) 3) THMs_Temperature_Rainfall: contains monthly average data for THMs (Scottish Water), ambient temperature and rainfall monthly average values (data for both variables obtained from Met Office) 4) THMs_DOC_monthly_yearly_averages: yearly monthly average data for each variable Key words used to describe the data: Averages, median and standard deviations for measurements underpinning the figures, ========================== Methodological information ========================== A brief method description – what the data is, how and why it was collected or created, and how it was processed: Trihalomethanes concentrations, see analytical method description in the paper. Instruments, hardware and software used: Software: Minitab 16, Excel and ArcMap10.1 Date(s) of data collection: 01/01/2011 - 01/01/2013 Geographic coverage of data: Scotland, UK Data validation (how was the data checked, proofed and cleaned): All individual data were collected and analysed following a scheduled sampling programme and certified analytical protocols approved by the Drinking Water Quality Regulator (DWQR) for Scotland and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and stored in Scottish Water Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Overview of secondary data, if used: Soil maps for GIS mapping software can be dowloaded directly from http://www.soils-scotland.gov.uk/data/soil-survey ========================= Data-specific information ========================= Definitions of names, labels, acronyms or specialist terminology uses for variables, records and their values: THMs = trihalomethanes, sum of trichloromethane, bromodichloromethane, dibromochloromethane and tribromomethane Explanation of weighting and grossing variables: Outline any missing data: Missing data was not included for any correlation or linear regression analysis ======= Contact ======= Please contact rdm@ncl.ac.uk for further information
