READ ME This text describes the data presented in the paper: ======================== Introductory information ======================== Files included in the data deposit (include a short description of what data are contained): 1) the word document file of the accepted manuscript 2) the word document file of the supplementary information 3) the word document file with the highlights 4) all figures of the accepted manuscript and of the supplementary information Explain the relationship between multiple data sets, if required: Key words used to describe the data: Metallic nickel nanoparticle, solubility, seawater, sea urchin, embryonic development ========================== Methodological information ========================== A brief method description – what the data is, how and why it was collected or created, and how it was processed: We used a set of different methods to characterize the metallic nickel nanoparticles (XRD, HRTEM, EDS, ICP-MS) as well as light microscopy for the characterization of the embryonic development of the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus. The collected data within this study describe the properties of metallic nickel nanoparticles especially in the seawater environment and their effects on sea urchin embryonic development. This laboratory study contributes to current studies on metallic nanoparticles and their potential consequences to the marine ecosystem. Data were produced by repeated experiments and measurements. Instruments, hardware and software used: HRTEM, JEOL 2100F field emission gun, with EDS detector XRD, PANalytical X'pert Pro, with X'Celerator area detector and Cu Ka X-rays Ultra-sonication, Hilsonic or Sonopuls, UW 3100, Bandelin electronics ICP-MS, Agilent 7500 ICP-MS DLS, Zetasizer Nano ZS, Malverin Olympus SZH 10 Axioskop, Zeiss, with documentation software NikonDsFi1, NIS-ElementsD Axiovert 200M, Zeiss, with documentation software Axio Vision, Zeiss Date(s) of data collection: Data collection took place over the last years. Geographic coverage of data: Data validation (how was the data checked, proofed and cleaned): The experimentes were repeated several times to ensure reproducibility. Overview of secondary data, if used: The data were produced by the authors and references were cited accordingly in the manuscript where necessary. ========================= Data-specific information ========================= Definitions of names, labels, acronyms or specialist terminology uses for variables, records and their values: NiNP - nickel nanoparticle, ASW - artificial seawater Explanation of weighting and grossing variables: Outline any missing data: ======= Contact lidija.siller@newcastle.ac.uk ======= Please contact rdm@ncl.ac.uk for further information
