READ ME This text describes the data presented in the paper: ======================== Introductory information ======================== Files included in the data deposit (include a short description of what data are contained): The data showed the physico-chemical and biological characterisation of the electrospun membranes: 1) SEM-EDS: morphological and chemical analyses of the porous membranes, based on PLGA and nanoHA, functionalised by LbL analysis 2) FTIR-ATR: FTIR-ATR spectra 3) XPS: xps analysis of all the membranes with and without LbL functionalisation 4) In Vitro test: file excel including all the data for PrestoBlue, PicoGreen assays, osteopontin and osteocalcin kit 5) In Vivo test: movies of the microCT scans after 1 month implantation of the membranes into Wistar rats and data for the calculation of the new bone matrix Explain the relationship between multiple data sets, if required: - Key words used to describe the data: Layer-by-Layer assembly, in vitro tests, in vivo tests ========================== Methodological information ========================== A brief method description – what the data is, how and why it was collected or created, and how it was processed: The data include the physico-chemical characterisation of porous electrospun membarnes functionalised by Layer-by-Layer assembly for improving bone tissue regeneration. after the successful assembly of layers at the nanoscale, the following steps were the in vitro tests (by using mesenchimal stem cells) and the in vivo tests after the implantation of the membranes in Wistar rats for 1 month. all the data were collected statistically (at least triplicate for each tests). Instruments, hardware and software used: - SEM-EDS: Hitachi TM3030 - XPS: Thermo Scientific, UK and CasaXPS software - FTIR-ATR: Nicolet iS10 spectrometer - In vitro tests: Leica DM2500 - In vivo tests: SkyScan1172 and Bruker software - Excel and GraphPad Prism software Date(s) of data collection: from January 2015 to June 2016 Geographic coverage of data: Newcastle upon Tyne and Sheffield, UK Data validation (how was the data checked, proofed and cleaned): the data were considered in triplicate. for the in vitro characterisation, the tests were reapeted in triplicate. Overview of secondary data, if used: - ========================= Data-specific information ========================= Definitions of names, labels, acronyms or specialist terminology uses for variables, records and their values: docusate sodium salt (DSS) poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA; LA/GA ratio (75/25) e-maleimidocaproic acid (EMCA) N-(3-Dimethylaminopropyl)-N-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) poly(sodium4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) N-Hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ethylenediamine (ED) poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) nanoHydroxyapatite (nHA) The manufactured membranes were coded with the corresponding number of the last layer created, following with “_P” if the bone peptide sequences were grafted to PAH.
