Identification of catalytic steps and the active catalyst by combining spectrochemical methods (UV-Visible spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy) with electrochemical experiments (thin-layer cyclic voltammetry, looking at the change in current with an applied voltage in the absence and presence of CO2). Key reactions products and intermediates are also identified.
